light is… and is not a recording of reality… a photon is a massless packet of energy, spherically expanding from the source it comes from… Illumination is the result of that energy being absorbed and RE-emitted by electrons… electrons become like a tuning fork resonating new light due to the light coming in… light does NOT ricochet or bounce but is absorbed by the electron cloud of the object and a new light at a new frequency is emitted… colors are a type of resonance from the original light…
